Planning for a Disaster

Emergencies can strike at any moment, so it is important to be prepared. While preparedness means something different to everyone depending on your circumstance, here are a few things everyone should do to prepare.

Make a Basic Supply Kit

Include the following in your supply kit and keep inventory to make sure it is always ready.

 

  • Water: One gallon per person per day for at least three days

  • Food: A three-day supply of non-perishable food

  • Manual Can Opener

  • Portable Radio or Television and Batteries

  • Flashlight and Batteries

  • First Aid Kit

  • Medication: A three-day supply

  • Toiletries: For personal hygiene, including hand sanitizer, moist towelettes, and toilet paper

  • Copies of Important Documents: Insurance policies, identification, bank account information, credit cards in a waterproof container and some cash

  • Matches: In a waterproof container

  • Whistle

  • Extra Clothing and Blankets
